There is a well-known parable of a leader who, prior to taking a journey, gave three servants a set sum of money (talents) based on his assessment of their abilities. The expectation the leader had for those servants was to reinvest the funds and make a profit in his absence. One servant was given five talents, another two, and another one. Upon returning from the trip, the leader asked the servants for an account of their efforts.
The servant that was given five talents doubled the investment, as did the servant who was given two talents. But the servant that was given one talent buried his talent for “safe-keeping” and made no investments at all. The master called the two servants that double their money, ‘Good and Faithful’. The servant who failed to invest was deemed ‘Wicked, Lazy, and Foolish’, and remaining talent that he was entrusted was given to the servant who was initially given five talents.
You may ask, how does this relate? Often in our organizations we fail to realize
that we have been given an abundance of resources that will help multiply our impact.
We help Christian faith-based organizations identify resources, find ways to equip in ways that best align with the mission and purpose of the organization…thus causing the impact to multiply in a substantial and meaningful way. Sow good seed with Five Talents!
Does your organization or congregation have unresolved conflict? Do you have failed initiatives because of poor communication, lack of commitment, or misunderstandings? It was recently reported that 50% of Christians say that their lives are unaffected by their church experience. Other sources site that 80% of congregational efforts are achieved by 20% of its members. Regardless of how much we want to rationalize, there is much work to be done in the body of Christ.
Often when we need change, we look outside of ourselves to try to find the answers and solutions we need. At Five Talents Consulting, we believe that in most cases, we are given all the resources we need to succeed, but often we do not know how to access/use them. We work with our partners to discover how to identify the resources they have, equip them with the knowledge on how to best leverage the usage of those resources, which will multiply the harvest of their efforts.
